Bush Vetoes Health Care For Children

Bush once more has neglected the middle class and poor children by vetoing the CHIP bill. This protects children whose parents can not afford health insurance.
He is afraid of Socialized medicine. I think that it is time we give everyone the right to have medical attention no matter who they are. Bush wants to protect his buddies in the insurance companies who make all the money at the risk of the American people.
My story is not as bad as some that I heard about. Children who are very sick and have hospital stays of over a year. Their parents have to sell everything to pay the bills.
We are the riches country in the world and our president cant put aside money to make sure our children are keep healthy. He can find money for everything else but that. This man has twisted values. Call you senators and congressman & woman tell to over ride the president veto and give our children a chance to be healthy

Herb, The fact that this bill would cover families making up to $83,000 a year is somewhat questionable. My grandchildren have to prove they need help every three months while my son works for minimum wage and illegal workers get it all for free with no questions asked. This is not an average American income nor are they poor. They certainly are in the higher brackets. That said all children should not have to undergo a lack of medical care regardless of the families finacial situation and while they may have insurance those policies might just not cover everything. A sad fact of compassion and morality these days. Now as for our adults, we have two choices. Have them run us into bankruptcy and the cardboard box, or simply die. Its a simple choice and they really do not care which one we take. Just pay the bill. It is called the free market system. And as they say in the movies, "thats a fact jack"! Best wishes.
Herb, Self serving politicians are trying to turn the so called S-Chip program aimed at children into a new entitlement program. There are three states that have already found ways to use the program to cover adults. To the tune of some 3 billion dollars in one state I might add. The bill the president wanted was a 3 billion dollar increase over the current program. He wanted to raise the income threshold for the children of families that would be covered and close loop holes that unscrupulous politicians could use to buy votes. The majority leaders in the House and Senate sent a bill that left the loop holes in and added 30 billion dollars to raise the threshold to nearly twice the average income. Oh, just for fun...divide 30 billion by the total population of this country some time and ad see what you get. It's kind of scary. Holding down spending instead o spending our children's futures might be a good ideal. As to his concerns about socialized medicine, ask a Canadian who has been living in fear for 6 months waiting for a test to find out if they have colon cancer how good socialized medicine is. We should all be afraid of it. I know a lot of Canadians are because they will not be able to come to the US for TIMELY diagnoses and treatment.
Very good article--and acurate as well, I might add. Thanks for helping spread the word about the atrotious (not sure that's spelled right, but you get my meaning) condition of this country's aid to the very people who make it America!
Herb, Did you read the article you linked to? It helped me to understand why Bush vetoed the bill. The bill wasn't about children. It was overloaded to put Bush in a no win situation. He was willing to sign up for a 5 Billion dollar increase. Congress sent him an inflated, expansionary bill costing 35 Billion.
